All of us at New Ravenna are overjoyed to roll out the “KIDDO: Wunderkammer Edition” collection by our very own creative director genius, Cean Irminger! The six whimsical designs in this collection are the result of an imaginative journey through Irminger’s nearly two decades as a mosaic designer and the PERFECT touch for any kid’s room, bathroom, playroom, nursery, etc. The KIDDO: Wunderkammer Edition delves into the essence of childhood from playful days at the beach to nights filled with story time. Everything you see is handmade using materials like stone, brass, aluminum, shell, 24k gold, antiqued mirror, and jewel glass.
“Arrow Rows” was designed as a tribute to Irminger’s father who is a world-class arrowhead hunter. In “Caroushell,” seahorses and rococo shells transform a traditional brocade into a seaside adventure. “Subway!” is a play on your typical subway tile with (anything but typical!) city metros gliding across the familiar glass bricks. “Personal Space” caters to young children dreaming of becoming astronauts and traveling to faraway galaxies, “Tzarry Tzarry Night” takes us back to our Aladdin and Jasmine days, and winding, twisting dragons can be found in the “Here Be Dragons” mosaic border.
“The idea of a Wunderkammer, otherwise known as a wonder room, has always delighted me,” says Cean. “Essentially a trove of fantastic curiosities from the natural, scientific and artistic worlds, it’s a collection that by its nature draws one in to look closer, to try and discover the story of each object. The aim of the KIDDO collection has always been to entice viewers and transport them to a place of childlike wonder. I wanted the designs to inspire the happy jolts of surprise you get from discovering a secret in plain sight. I feel that the purpose of this collection, and also of New Ravenna, is to give personality and a voice to the inanimate spaces of our lives, and to give people joy in their daily surroundings.”
In her original KIDDO collection, first launched in 2016, you’ll find eccentric and mischievous designs that speak to the inner child: charming bunny rabbits, geometric boxes filled with mythical creatures, paper airplanes, shadow puppets, and zoo animals – just to name a few. Her second edition, KIDDO: Wunderkammer, brings that same cheerful spirit and modern design to mosaic and tile surfaces – this time with new materials, colors and characters. As always, each pattern can be fully customized to the client’s material preference.
