February 14, 2023 (Exmore, VA) … New Ravenna, America’s premier designer and manufacturer of mosaics for residential and commercial installations, is pleased to present the Pinnacle collection. The four designs in the collection were chosen from submissions to New Ravenna’s first Mosaic Design Competition in celebration of their 30th Anniversary. The mosaics are handcrafted in Virginia from stone, jewel glass, and brass. The designs represent two categories of submissions: Fine Art and Pattern. The two winners in the Fine Art category are You Shape the World Around You by Heather Green and Moon Jellies by Jacquelyn Bizzotto. The two winners in the Pattern category are Canna by Jessica Battista and Norris by Zachary Bowen. The winning designs have become part of New Ravenna’s catalogue of made-to-measure mosaic offerings and the designers will receive a commission on each mosaic produced. New Ravenna’s second Mosaic Design Competition will be announced on their social channels.

Cean Irminger, New Ravenna’s creative director, says of Pinnacle, “It was such a delight to hold New Ravenna’s first ever open design competition as a part of our 30th anniversary celebration. The breadth of imagination and talent shown by contestants was astounding. The ultimate winners were selected for the beauty of the original artwork and for the challenge of the piece’s mosaic realization. For fine art we were looking for unique, conceptual, non-repeating images that would showcase both the artist’s vision and a wide range of techniques to highlight the skill of the mosaicists interpreting it. For the pattern winners we selected repeating patterns that were more accessible while still being intricate and eye-catching.”

Moon Jellies designed by Jacquelyn Bizzotto of Onnancock, VA

Fine Art Winner

“This panel was inspired by the Chesapeake Bay. Growing up on the water, I encountered many jellyfish, but they never held me back from jumping off a boat or a dock. Here, I decided to take a fascinating creature that can be painful and turn it into something beautiful.”

Moon Jellies, a hand-cut glass mosaic shown in Obsidian, Jet, Zircon, Marcasite, Mica, Pewter, Covelite, Opal, Moonstone, and Absolute White, is designed by Jacquelyn Bizzotto and is part of our Pinnacle collection.

You Shape the World Around You designed by Heather Green of Highland Park, IL

Fine Art Winner

“The intention behind this piece is based in meditative practice. While creating this image, I focused on the title phrase (or mantra) and used vertical marks in the composition to indicate revolutions of the mantra through my mind. I believe that this mantra encourages manifestation, and I hope viewers see this piece as a talisman for attracting positivity into their lives.”

You Shape the World Around You, a hand-cut stone mosaic shown in tumbled Dolomite, Whitewood, Aloe, Orchid, and Verde Alpi with honed Lagos Gold, Whitewood, polished Blue Macauba, Blue Bahia, Travertine Noce, Thunderhead, Celeste, White Onyx, Giallo Reale, Lagos Gold, Red Lake, Orchid, Aloe, Ivy, Olive, Fern, Sweetgrass, Lotus, Cornflower, Periwinkle, Oleander, Eucalyptus, Honeysuckle, Tiger’s Eye, and Goldenrod, is designed by Heather Green and is part of our Pinnacle collection.

Canna designed by Jessica Battista of Glastonbury, CT

Pattern Winner

“Canna lilies are such a captivating plant to me.  As beautiful as their blooms are to look up to (since most tower above my head), their leaves are what draw me in.  With so many large leaves bursting from the stem, each painted with intricate stripes, it is hard to tell where one starts and the next begins. The effect is visually hypnotic.”

Canna, a hand-cut and waterjet stone mosaic shown in honed Sweetgrass and polished Fern, is designed by Jessica Battista and is part of our Pinnacle collection.

Norris by Zachary Bowen of Exmore, VA

Pattern Winner

“I’ve always been fascinated with waterjet mosaics and wanted to create a pattern that showcases the capabilities of the machine, such as the ability to cut perfect circles from stone, glass, or metal. I am drawn to concentric and interwoven geometric patterns that create the illusion of depth in a two-dimensional plane, similar to the Celtic or Gordian Knot. The templates are designed to blend together in such a way that the individual pieces are not immediately identifiable once a whole panel has been installed. As for colorway, I envision this in contrasting colors, where the circles and arcs stand out against the larger background pieces.”

Norris, a waterjet stone mosaic shown in polished Calacatta Tia and Nero Marquina, is designed by Zachary Bowen and is part of our Pinnacle collection.

The stone in the Pinnacle collection has been honed, polished, and tumbled. Mosaic techniques include hand cutting and water-jet. All of the mosaics with the exception of Moon Jellies, can be installed on walls and floors, indoors and out. Moon Jellies, which is glass, can be installed on interior vertical surfaces.

New Ravenna mosaics are found in homes, restaurants, hotels, casinos, and businesses around the world, and are available for purchase through designer showrooms across the country and internationally.
