When it comes to glass, no one does it better than Italy. The glass-making techniques in Italia have been handed down through generations of families for centuries, and the processes require exceptional skill, knowledge, and attention to detail. There is a long history behind the decorative and art glass you see in many of our mosaics, and we treat the materials with the utmost respect as we weave them into our own pieces of art at our factory in Exmore, Virginia.

Some of our most opulent designs are created with 24k Gold Glass and Platinum Glass in mind. When it comes to luxury, of course we’re adding these pops of lavish gold and silver sparkle! These glasses are handmade in Italy specifically for New Ravenna in both 3/8″ and 1/8″ so that we can use it alongside our stone palette (3/8″) and our jewel glass palette (1/8″). The glasses are fired to create the beautiful “crackle” finish seen upon close inspection. Each piece is handcrafted and completely unique. This Aspen mosaic we did for a client in Aiken, South Carolina, Gerry Eisenberg, utilizes the gold glass alongside stone and the effect is stunning. It was even featured in The New York Times! From the article: “Gerry installed our Aspen mosaic in her bathroom, complete with 24-karat gold accents, and the final product is breathtaking. Gerry says, ‘What is more wonderful than mosaic? What is more traditional?’ she said. ‘But mosaic with gold glass to give it that modern zip.’ Today, Gerry is more satisfied than ever with her bathroom, stating that it brings color, light and a sense of artistry into her home.”

If you’re a fan of New Ravenna, you’ve most likely seen our “Egrets” mosaic in varying colors of jewel glass and, you guessed it, 24K Gold Glass. Below, we strategically placed the gold throughout the mosaic to highlight certain aspects of the subjects and to create a feel of luminescence.

For those who wish to incorporate our Gold Glass into your bathroom areas, our installation lab team has performed extensive testing on our 3/8″ Gold Glass and is happy to report that the material is suitable for wet areas. We cannot recommend submersion, but as long as the material is fully dried before the installation, there should be no discernible flaws in any part of the Gold Glass when used in wet areas. We’re ready to see some bathrooms dripping in gold!

If gold is not for you, we have a cooler toned silver option in our Platinum glass. Below, you can see the material hand-cut alongside a similar color palette of polished Greystoke, Allure, Carrara, and Bardiglio.
